If you are building a new home, or perhaps refurbishing an existing one, there are many things that you need to take into consideration. It can also take time to get them the way that you ultimately want them, so you must never rush things. You need to sit down and give them some thought.
One of the most important things in homes today is the kitchen. This is because it is not as it used to be 50 years ago when it was just a room to do the cooking and the washing up, along with the washing machine and tumble drier. Today, it has become a room where a lot of entertainment of family and friends goes on. You invite them round for dinner, and everyone sits down in the kitchen. (In many cases, the dining room has long gone â often because the wall between it and the kitchen was demolished in order to make the kitchen so much bigger).
Even if you are not having friends around for dinner, family meals are all in the kitchen today, and so it needs to be not only functional but also look great and feel comfortable. (And, of course, it needs a telly, so that you can watch Corrie and EastEnders).
When redesigning the kitchen, one of the things that stands out most are the worktops. Because they are in a horizontal plane, they catch the eye, as does the flooring. So, you need to think about the material that you want to use for the worktops. Obviously, it has to be functional. But at the same time, it has to look great and make you proud and happy to be in there.
A Lot Of Worktop Materials Are Bland
Now there are lots of different materials that you can use for the worktops, but a lot of them are, to say the least, bland. You want something that stands out and says âLook at me! What a fabulous colour I am!â and if that makes you smile, then youâve cracked it!
One of the most amazing choices for the kitchen is marble worktops in London. Marble is a natural stone, and it has many benefits when used in the kitchen. Not the least of these is that it is porous and is therefore a poor conductor of heat. As such, it remains cold to the touch â even on a hot summerâs day. So, it is perfect for working dough because it doesnât overheat.
Yeah, but marbleâs white, isnât it?
Well, yes, a lot of marble is basically white. But it has incredible graining within it. Every single slab of marble is unique.
And it is not all white, either! There are browns, greys, russets, and even pure Belgian Black. Not only that, but polished marble gives off an incredible sheen which sets it above every other natural stone. Not for nothing was it used for the Taj Mahal and the Washington Memorial.
At Marble & Granite we always have a stock of incredible marble slabs from which you can choose. And not just for kitchen worktops, but for the bathroom surfaces as well. Come and take a look. We think you will be amazed!
