Granite Worktops in Watford: The Sustainable, Durable Choice

Are you concerned about finding eco-friendly and durable worktops that meet your design expectations? With so many options involving synthetic materials, it can be hard to ensure you’re making a sustainable choice. Granite worktops are the answer—offering low chemical impact, and timeless beauty, all with minimal environmental footprint.

Sustainability

Did you know that a single quarry site may furnish stone for hundreds of commercial and residential constructions over centuries? Granite is also nearly finished as a worktop material in its natural form. Once quarried, minimum processing is necessary to prepare it for use in the kitchen. In contrast, engineered materials have a complex manufacturing process that frequently involves hazardous chemicals and damaging emissions into the atmosphere.

We at Marble & Granite Ltd source natural stones from some of the world’s best quarries and only work with reliable stockists, ensuring that clients receive the highest quality materials for their projects.

Seams

In a normal kitchen, granite worktops in Watford will require 2-3 seams. The typical slab size varies depending on the colour of granite you pick. A normal expectation is 9 feet by 5 feet. Large islands may often be completed without seams. If you have an L or U-shaped arrangement, you might expect seams where the worktops slant in opposite directions. The good news is that many fabricators will make custom-coloured epoxy to bind the seams together, which does an excellent job of concealing them. Expect the seam to be around 1/8″ thick.

Undermount Sink Installation

Undermount sinks are commonly used in granite worktop installations. This allows crumbs and spills to be cleaned straight into the sink rather than getting trapped on the lip of a surface mount sink. You have numerous options for sinks, including cast iron, stainless steel, and solid surface. Fabricators will cut and polish the sinkhole to fit the shape of your desired sink.

Backsplash options

Coved backsplashes, which are ubiquitous in laminate worktops, are not available in granite. Typically, a second 4″ piece of stone slab will be affixed to the top of your worktop. Tile and full-height granite backsplashes are also common.

Resistance to chemicals

Granite worktops in Watford are very chemical resistant. Acids and bases will not damage the substance. However, be cautious about repeated usage, since some chemicals can wash away the sealer over time, necessitating re-sealing before the prescribed period.
